2 | How we start ffe
As the year ends I am making lists and checking them twice. We have photographed two projects with Nate Sheets and will photograph one more late January. Having beautiful photos of our work is elemental and one major way we present ourselves. Does it function well, okay fine, but is it beautiful?
When it comes to FFE (furniture, fixtures and equipment) we always start projects with a budget matrix. This is a master document that allows us to inventory and create our wish list per room. We allocate a budget number so the client can get an estimated total. It’s a place to start the conversation and make sure we are on the right track regarding the level of investment, amount of custom items, etc. This is the same document we use throughout the project to note sizes, actual prices, and is our checklist for what is done and what is outstanding. As much as I love a free flowing creative process, so much of what we do requires a high level of organization and structure. I have grown to love it. The more thorough and organized we keep our documents, the easier it is to get to completion.
I also notice and am working to pay attention to the momentum and pace of projects. As long as we do our part to provide details and specifications in a timely manner, we can rely on our contractors to execute. Good, experienced contractors are everything. It is important to trust and work closely with our team and come together when issues/questions arise so we can put our brains together and then bring it to the client.
Goooo team and go design process!!!
