kristyn iman
Kristyn has practiced interior design in Kansas City since 2007, and founded Design Spout in 2021.
I have always loved design, and I am deeply grateful for the people and experiences that led me to launch Design Spout. My creative spirit began as a little girl with my Grandma. She designed her own homes, that my uncle would build. I have her hand drafted plans of my favorite house she designed. My dad was an auctioneer, and he and my mom taught me about hard work. They sold estates full of period furniture and collectibles. I attended many auctions and remember the first time I was paid for helping. My mom designed and renovated all of our homes. She upholstered, made custom frames, and ran a furniture store in a historic building in my hometown, full of collections from dad’s auctions. It was a rich childhood.
After graduating from Mizzou with a degree in Architectural Studies, I went to work designing sports stadiums—a fast-paced and exhilarating start to my career. I worked hard, stayed late, and had the privilege of learning under an incredible mentor who gave me autonomy and guidance. He was lighthearted and funny. I loved learning from him.
After that chapter, I was invited to join a high-end residential design firm. With young kids at home, I started part-time, but my love for the work quickly grew into a full-time role. Residential design was more intimate and personal, and I found so much joy in connecting with clients and creating spaces that truly reflected their lives.
Now, 19 years later, I love design even more. Building long-term client relationships and working through every detail of custom interiors is energizing. Bringing a project to life takes collaboration, organization, and a talented team, and I feel lucky to work with people who share my passion for excellence.
Being a mother to three teenagers is my biggest joy. My senior is headed to college! I love playing tennis, baking for my family on Saturday mornings and getaways to NYC.
We’d love to connect with you and hear about your project—let’s create something beautiful together!

We take pride in…
-
01 — TWENTY YEARS
Kristyn is coming up on 20 years of experience executing a wide range of projects with architects, contractors and clients. This experience brings a high level of collaboration to the project; understanding responsibilities and holding contractors accountable. We build clients trust early in the project to execute the design with confidence.
-
02 — CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS
It is important to understand how your Interior Designer will document and communicate the design to your contractor. We deliver a scaled set of construction drawings for the contractor and sub contractors to bid and later build from with schedules with all specifications in one place. We make sure full size sets of these drawings are on the job site and that the sub contractors refer to the construction drawings! This confirms the design intent is played out to the final details. It simplifies the process and clarifies roles on the project.

03 — INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
The Devil is in the Details! I am passionate about interior architecture. No matter the architectural style - harmony is created when the details are planned and executed with care.
-
04 — LIBRARY OF RESOURCES
We have a vast array of resources for materials, lighting, furnishings, custom fabricators, which allows us to offer a one-of-a-kind look for our clients. I love to find unique pieces that are right for the space.
-
05 — Customization
We take every opportunity to design, execute and deliver fully custom one-of-a-kind designs for our clients. Whether this be your front door, a hand knotted rug, a dining table…eventually custom lighting…designing special pieces is one of the biggest joys of being a designer!
-
06 — Environmentally Sustainable
Kristyn is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional and can design for project certification. It provides a framework for healthy, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable buildings, covering design, construction, operation, and maintenance.

REALIZATIONS *
Kristyn is proficient in 3D modeling and rendering. Studying your project in 3D is an easy way to discuss the design intent and receive your feedback. It is a great tool for the entire team (client, designer, architect, contractor) to work through details and make sure the aesthetic and function are well planned, making it easier to execute. Our team uses Revit to create drawings from schematic layouts to a set of construction drawings for the contractor to accurately bid and build the project. Whether doing a project solo, or with a team, these tools streamline execution of the project.
